Been writing toward a 3 Act structure, would like to try the 4 Act structure.  How does this pan out regarding character journey and arc?

Four-act structure is identical to three-act. It simply acknowledges that the middle of the script is an act break and not a demoted "midpoint" within Act Two.  This lets you handle the script as four quarters.  You might like to consider the function of the four equal parts as:

ACT ONE: GOAL/SITUATION
The Setup; YOU; Orphan; Child; Innocent; Preparation; Life; Consciousness; Mother; Home World; Outer World; Dependant; Powerless; No authority; Avoids risks; Suppresses 'dragon'; Denies 'self'; Need; Naivety; Thesis; Intention

ACT TWO: OPPOSITION/COMPLICATION
The Response; GO; Youth; Wanderer; Separation; Seeks identity; Seeks individuality; Father; Rejects 'Society'; Embraces 'Self'; Adaption; Journey inward; Between two worlds; Search; Fear; Antithesis; Counter-Intention

ACT THREE: CONFLICT
The Attack; FIND; Adult; Warrior; Initiation; Death; Unconsciousness; Evil Domain; Reliance on 'Self'; Powerful; Risk taker; Asserts 'Self'; Inner world; Dealing with opposite sex; Trickster; Take; Focus; Antithesis; Crisis

ACT FOUR: CRISIS/SOLUTION
The Resolution; CHANGE; Return; Maturity; Martyr to Magician; Flees from 'identity'; Seeks conformity; Embraces 'Society'; Destroys 'Self'; Journey outward; Integration; Syzegy; Change; Mastery; Synthesis; Solution
